Project... Monogram Door Hanger

This was a super fast project to complete... wait... aren't all projects with stickers really fast to complete?!

What you'll need for this project:
  • Michael's frame and Monogram (or something similar)
  • Sticker sheets from www.modernstickercompany.com
  • Sharp xacto knife
  • Scissors
  • Vinyl scraper if you want

I started with a thin frame and monogram I picked up at Michael's for about $10 or less.  I used a coupon!  2 coordinating sheets of vinyl from Modern Sticker Company.  My frame measured about 18" x 22" inches so I used one of the New 24" x 48" pieces of vinyl so I didn't have to seam it anywhere.  I used the Coral Quatrefoil for the larger and the striped sheet from the Coral 12"x12" pack.

I started with the monogram first.  Cut my vinyl slightly bigger than the monogram and determined my placement.  Next flip the vinyl over and remove the paper backing.  Position monogram face down and get ready to trim!

Keeping the monogram face down trace around the edges with your very sharp xacto.  Very Sharp is key!  It makes the edges much more smooth and way easier to cut!  Cut around all edges and the inside.  Flip over... and voila!  Monogram done!

Now for the frame...
Same procedure as the  monogram.  Cut the vinyl to fit the frame with a little hanging over the edges.

Remove the paper backing and stick the frame face down onto it.  As you can see in the picture below I saved the vinyl from inside the frame to use on a later project.  I just left the paper backing on.  Once I trim around the inside of the frame I'll have that extra piece for something else.  You don't have to do that step :)

Flip it over and smooth the vinyl down.  Press all along the edges.  You can either trim from this side or flip it face down like we did the monogram and trim off the excess.

I had some white tulle on hand and used that to connect my pieces together and hung that baby up!  I think tying it all together took longer than actually making it!

ENJOY!

Project... Ceiling Fan

Project . . . Ceiling Fan

Finished Ceiling Fan

... and here's what the original looked like

My next sticker project as you can see was to redo the ceiling fan in my bedroom.  It was time for a change!  I've been wanting new bedding for quite some time and hadn't found what I was looking for.  So I quit looking for the time being and focused on what I could change... the decor!

The next couple posts will be part of my update the bedroom project.  So let's get started and I'll show you how I redid my fan!

I used the following to complete this project:

Xacto Knife
Scissors
my husband - optional :)

Step 1.
Take down the fan blades.  For me, because I'm so short, this meant getting my husband to take the fan blades off for me :)  Balancing a stool on top of my bed didn't seem like the smartest idea.

Step 2.
Wash off all the embarrassing amount of dust that has accumulated all winter.  So gross!

Step 3.
Destruction time.  Remove all the hardware from the blades.

Step 4. Cut the sticker sheet into strips slightly larger than your fan blade.  I then removed the paper backing from one strip I'd cut and then layed my blade black side down on to the vinyl so I could easily center it and make sure I had enough space all the way around my blade. (I'll admit... I did use the black side just in case I didn't like the way my vinyl looked, I could still use my fan the way it was before.  But guess what... I LOVED the end result!!)

Step 5. Smooth the vinyl onto the blades.  I love working with this vinyl because any bubbles that appear smooth out like magic. . . seriously!  So different than regular crafting vinyl.

Step 6. Using an xacto knife cut the excess off all the way around the edges.

Step 7.  Trim vinyl away from the holes where the hardware goes.  I pushed the vinyl down into the holes slightly so I could see/feel them easier when cutting them out.

Step 8.  Put the hardware back on and reassemble fan.  Repeat for each blade.

Finished blade

Here again is the end result!  It turned out even better than I hoped... I love it when that happens!

Project Ceiling Fan = SWEET SUCCESS!!!

What you would you makeover with a sticker sheet?

Project... Cherry Blossom Branch

This was such a fun and rather fast project to put together.  By placing the
Cherry Blossom decal on a piece of painted canvas it really updates the sticker
and gives dimension to the piece.  Looks more art like...as it should!

I'll show you what I used and how I got the look.

Let's get started!

What you'll need:
  • Cherry Blossom decal (Decal from www.modernwallcompany.com found here)
  • 2 foot x 4 foot piece of Canvas
  • Acrylic paint (I used Black)
  • Foam paint brush

Step 1.  Paint the canvas including sides

Make sure paint has completely dried before moving to step 2 or the vinyl will NOT stick!!

Step 2.  Apply the Branch

Determine Branch placement
Use a scraper or plastic spatula to press the vinyl onto the canvas.  This was tricky because the canvas is soft and flexible.  I didn't want to push right through it!  One after thought I had was to place a book or something sturdy underneath the canvas so when I pushed the vinyl down it would push against the book instead of bending the canvas.

Step 3.  Remove transfer sheet

Take your time, go slow.  The vinyl will most likely pull up or lift as you roll off the transfer paper.  Canvas has a good texture to it and the vinyl will need a bit of help.  So, if it does loosen up or lift use your fingers and press it back down, smoothing as you go.  I questioned if the vinyl really would stay on the canvas once it was finished because it doesn't stick tight like it does on glass, but it totally stayed!

Step 4.  Apply the Blossoms

Now for the fun part!  Cut out the blossoms and decide where to put them and how many to use!

Step 5. Hang your finished piece and Enjoy!
